Day 7 - Family Dinners

I enjoy the idea of sitting down as a family and enjoying a meal while talking about our day.  It not always easy to do considering our busy lives, but I think it’s important to spend time together free of distractions likes TV and cell phones.  Admittedly my ‘ideal’ family dinner does not usually match up the reality.  The kids squabble and drinks get spilled.  It’s generally a loud affair and inevitably one of the kids will need to use the bathroom right after we all sit down to eat.   Regardless, we try to make it a priority and just part of the routine.  We want to hear about their days and they enjoy hearing about ours.  Often, I’ll sit down and Mitch will say “so Mama…how was your day?”.  We also want to use the opportunity to teach and practice good table manners.  Things like not showing everyone the table your chewed up food and not talking about bodily functions while eating.  The best family dinners are the ones where all four of us are there together.  An added bonus would be Pat’s cooking!  Life is so crazy and hectic.  I’m thankful for the opportunity to slow and connect with my family.

P.S. - the picture is obviously not a family dinner, but it’s pretty hilarious and representative of us.
