This year has been difficult in a lot of ways, but despite it all, we have SO much for which to be thankful. In November, I want to focus on this gratitude. I hope to try and help the kids see how truly fortunate we are. I don’t know exactly how I’ll do this yet, but I’ve got a few ideas. Gratitude starts with us recognizing our blessings and focusing on the positive aspects of life. To me, it is one of the most important things that I can teach my children.
One of the things I want to do is 30 Days of Thankfulness. Every day, I’m going to focus on a blessing in my life and write about it. I’m going to talk the kids and have them find a blessing as well.
30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 1 – Home
It’s said that home is a place that your feet may leave, but your heart will always be.
That’s been especially true for me. I’ve lived in Columbus for a little over 9 years now and I still think of Kentucky as home. It’s where I grew up and it’s where most of my family and friends still reside. It will always be special to me. There may not be a particular house that I call home there anymore, but that doesn’t matter. The people, the memories and the experiences (new and old) make Kentucky home.
But Columbus is also home. It took a long time for me to think of it that way. I resisted the notion that any place other than KY could be home. It wasn’t until I had my own children that it really changed. I think I finally came to see that home is more than just a place – it’s a feeling. Home is the relief that you get when you walk in the door after a long day at work. Home is that sense of comfort that comes with waking up warm in your own bed. Home is the contentment that you have when you’re snuggled up on the couch watching movies with the kids. Home is the hunger you feel when you smell bacon and French toast in the kitchen on Sunday mornings. Home is the joy that you have as you dance around the room with your babies in your arms. Home is love and happiness. I’m so grateful for our home. It’s not just where we live. It’s who we are. It’s our family.
Tonight at dinner, we talked about what we’re thankful for today. Evelyn said all the pets. πΆπ±π°. Mitch said trains (surprise surprise!). π. Daddy said he’s thankful for the two best kiddos ever! π
